Schoolchildren dash across road at Sumang Walk to catch bus -- and almost get hit by car
A group of schoolchildren were seen dashing across a road at Sumang Walk, with one girl narrowly avoiding an oncoming car.
The incident happened on March 14 at 5.31pm, presumably as the children were trying to catch a bus.
Stomper Lau Lau alerted Stomp to a video posted on SGRV's Facebook page, showing the children crossing in a hurry.
One girl runs ahead but stops just in time when she notices the car approaching.
She quickly retreats to the road divider and holds onto a boy's arm.
Netizens had mixed reactions to the incident.
The post says: "The school should educate their students to keep a proper lookout for cars before crossing the road."
While some agreed, others pointed fingers at the driver, highlighting the importance of reducing speed in a school zone.
"School zone doesn't mean anything to you, cam car?" A Facebook user wrote.
"A reminder that speed should be max 40kmh.
"I won't assume you are above 40kmh, but your surrounding awareness is lacking."
According to the Land Transport Authority (LTA), lower speed limits in school zones help create a safer road environment for school-going children, reducing the risk and severity of accidents.
