Safety cones used to reserve parking space on a public road?

That's a common occurrence in private estates where home owners would use various objects to "chope" parking spaces on public roads close to their home.

But the photos of the three cones shared by Stomper Sgsoho on Oct 22 were taken at Tagore Industrial Avenue.

As you may be able to tell from the name of the road, Tagore Industrial Avenue is in an industrial estate.

The Stomper wondered: "Is such 'choping' practice allowed?

To answer the Stomper's question, no, it is not allowed.

Under the Parking Places Rules, no person shall obstruct or cause any obstruction to a parking place or any parking lot with any vehicle, material or object.

An offender faces a composition fine of up to $400. In serious cases, the offender may be charged in court, which can impose a fine of up to $2,000 or a term of imprisonment of up to three months, or both.

Update:

Netizens have suggested that the safety cones were placed there because of roadworks.
