Despite being told by the authorities not to dump rubbish illegally, residents at Block 565 Hougang Street 51 apparently did not heed the advice.

This has been the situation "for years", according to Stomper J.

J shared photos showing various items, including bulky furniture and bedding, discarded on the second floor of the block, near the common rubbish chute.

There were also stray items left along the corridor.

J told Stomp on Sept 3: "I first emailed my MP in 2021 and also submitted feedback via the OneService portal in 2024. I have also written to the town council and the National Environment Agency (NEA). However, this still continues.

"The condition recently got worse, with fresh rat poop on the staircases daily."

J added: "It's making me fearful to come home when night falls."

In response to a Stomp query, a spokeswoman for Ang Mo Kio Town Council (AMKTC) said it is aware of the case.

The spokeswoman said: "Together with NEA, our property team conducted a joint inspection on July 18 to advise all residents on the second floor not to illegally discard items at the rubbish chute hopper area.

"On Sept 2, all items illegally discarded at the area were cleared."

The town council reminded residents not to dispose of items in the common areas, as doing so may obstruct escape routes and pose a fire safety hazard.

"Residents may contact the town council to arrange for bulky item collection services," the spokesperson added.

J told Stomp on Sept 8: "Thank you for highlighting this. We have been monitoring the situation. It's been clear for the past week and I hope the situation continues. Once again, I am very thankful."
