Residents lose sleep over daily pickleball games at Marine Parade court
Update:
Pickleball fans swing back at Stomper's noise complaint over Marine Parade court
Original article:
Some residents of Marine Crescent in Marine Parade have been losing sleep due to loud noises from a group of pickleball players using a multi-purpose court near Block 47.
Stomper Duncan shared with Stomp that the disturbances have been ongoing since October 2024, with players allegedly occupying the court from 8am to 9pm daily.
He said this has been disruptive to those who need rest, including night shift workers, seniors, and residents with health conditions.
Duncan, who suffers from asthma, expressed concerns that the lack of sleep could trigger serious health complications.
"My asthma will attack my lungs should l not have enough sleep, according to my specialist doctor," he said.
He added that he spotted many unfamiliar faces and believes most of the players are not residents of the area but come from nearby private estates in Telok Kurau and East Coast Road.
"Loud 'popping' sounds can be heard up to the 10th floor of my block," he added.
He has made several complaints to Marine Parade Town Council (MPTC) since the playing has started.
"MPTC doesn't charge them to use the court but trainers actually train players for coaching fees," he added.
In response to a Stomp query, Marine Parade Town Council said that the multi-purpose court is a shared community facility open to both residents and the public.
"We are aware of the concerns about noise levels in the area," a town council spokesperson said.
"For the well-being of the residents staying in the vicinity, we have restricted court usage to 9am to 9pm.
"Additionally, advisories have been placed on-site to remind users to be considerate and keep noise levels down.
"We will continue to monitor the situation.
"In view of the feedback received from the residents and the increased popularity of the court, the town council is also evaluating the possibility of implementing a court booking system to better manage the usage of the court."
The town council added that residents are encouraged to contact the town council directly should they have any estate-related queries at 1800-241 6487 or 1800-287 6530, or via their Facebook and Instagram (@marineparadetc).
