Repeat drink-driving offender, 62, among 14 nabbed after failing breathalyser test at police roadblock
Fourteen motorists were arrested when they failed the breathalyser test during routine police checks between January and May 2024.
The motorists, aged between 27 and 62, will be charged in court on June 20 for drink-driving offences.
One of them is a repeat drink-driving offender, having previously been convicted for drink driving in 2013.
The 62-year-old man was stopped for checks at a police roadblock on Jan 17 and was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol.
The offence of driving while under the influence of alcohol carries a fine of not less than $2,000 and not more than $10,000, or an imprisonment term of up to 12 months, or both.
In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, the offence carries a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $20,000, and an imprisonment term of up to two years.
Offenders may also face disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.
