Punggol resident gets letters and visits from debt collectors -- but he never borrowed any money
A resident at Block 666B Punggol Drive has been getting letters from various licensed moneylenders - but he never took up any loans.
He even had debt collectors visiting his home while he was overseas.
Stomper John said he received letters from numerous different authorised moneylenders from April 11, 2024, to June 13, 2025.
The letters notified John that he had outstanding loans totalling over $10,000, puzzling him as he had not borrowed money from anyone.
He contacted Stomp after his unit was visited by debt collectors at 6.20pm on June 18 while he was abroad.
"Although they are very professional and did not cause any disturbance, what would my neighbours assume?" he said.
A video shared by John showed the debt collectors knocking on his door and waiting outside.
John eventually realised the loans were taken up by the previous owner of his unit, which he had purchased on September 7, 2023.
He believes the previous owner of the unit had failed to remove the address on SingPass.
The Stomper explained: "So far, all the licensed moneylenders came to my unit trying to find the previous owner.
"Once they realised that the previous owner had already sold the flat, they did not bother us anymore. However, I'm not sure if there will be any others."
John made two police reports on April 13, 2024, and more recently on June 25, about the issue.
In response to a Stomp query, the police confirm that reports were lodged.
"Hopefully people do not try using our address again," John remarked.
