Five teens involved in the assault of a primary school boy in a stairwell have been identified and arrested for rioting, said the police on Sept 25.

A video of the incident had gone viral and was reported by Stomp.

In the 43-second video, the Qihua Primary School pupil was punched twice in the stomach by an older boy and doubled over in pain.

A male voice can be heard saying "Lagi, lagi, lagi", which means "More, more, more" in Malay.

The older boy then made the boy stand up and punched him several more times before giving him a kick.

The video later cuts to another boy joining the older boy in kicking the pupil.

An unedited almost four-minute version of the video has since started circulating online. The longer video shows more of the pupil getting punched and kicked by just the first older boy, and pleading for the assault to stop.

In response to a Stomp query, the school said: "We are aware of the incident and the matter is under police investigation.

"The safety and well-being of our students is our priority. We have provided counselling to the affected students and are working closely with their parents to ensure the well-being of all involved."

"We have also reminded our students to look out for one another and to report any incidents of bullying to their teachers."

Police investigations are ongoing.

The police said they take a serious view of such acts of violence and blatant disregard of the law.

"We will not hesitate to take action and deal with the offenders in accordance with the law," added the police.
