Police nab alleged serial thief who crawled outside Yishun flat, took sandals before changing his mind
The police have arrested the man caught on CCTV crawling outside a Yishun flat and attempting to take a pair of sandals.
Stomper Ziq shared CCTV footage taken on Aug 25 just after 5am of a man in a grey T-shirt crawling along the corridor before picking up a pair of sandals.
He walked away with the footwear but appeared to notice the newly installed camera. He then turned back, put the footwear back in place and left the area.
The police said they received multiple reports of theft and a suspicious character loitering in the vicinity of Yishun Ring Road.
On Aug 15, a woman reported that her jacket was stolen by a man from the common corridor of her flat.
A day later, another resident reported that his shirt and pants were missing from his laundry rack.
Between Aug 17 and 25, there were several reports of a suspicious person loitering in the common corridor of several blocks in the area.
Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of CCTV images, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the 48-year-old man and arrested him on Aug 28.
The jacket allegedly stolen from the woman was recovered from the suspect.
He will be charged in court on Aug 30 with theft, which carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, a fine, or both.
