A man was concerned to see a dog left inside a parked car in Tampines on July 21, at around 10.15am.

He walked past the carpark of Giant Hypermarket again around one hour later and saw that the canine was still in the car.

Stomper Anonymous said: "When I parked my car, the owner was there and left with the dog unattended. I returned one hour later and the dog was still inside huffing.

"The poor dog was locked inside the car in hot weather and the owner just disappeared.

"Although this is an open-air carpark, it has a zinc roof which is not heat-resistant.

"It's so cruel and inconsiderate. I pray that the dog did not suffocate."

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) said in an advisory on its website that animals should never be left alone in vehicles.

This applies "even if it's for a short while, and even if the window is slightly rolled down" as animals can sustain brain damage or even die from heatstroke in just under 15 minutes.

Members of the public who come across an animal left alone in a car are advised to stay on the scene and try to alert the owner if possible.

They may also contact the SPCA at 6287 5355 Ext.9 with details of the car's colour, model, and licence plate number, as well as take a picture or video of the animal in the vehicle.
