Update on March 7:

Indian national charged over lost AirPods: 'I urge your honour to send me back to my country'

Original article:

An auxiliary police officer (APO) was arrested over a pair of AirPods and faces up to seven years in jail if convicted.

The police were alerted to the case at Changi Airport Terminal 2 on Feb 28 at about 5.35pm.

Investigations revealed that a plane passenger had lost his AirPods, which were later found by a cabin crew member and handed over to the APO on duty.

Despite being entrusted with the recovered AirPods, the APO kept them for his own use.

He provided a photograph of his personal unbranded earbuds to the Lost And Found Office and handed it over instead of the AirPods.

When the passenger was contacted by the Lost And Found Office to verify his lost AirPods, he discovered that the earbuds were not his.

The APO's company conducted an internal investigation and reported the matter to the police after establishing that the APO had misappropriated the AirPods.

He was arrested and the passenger's AirPods were recovered.

The man will be charged in court on March 7 for criminal breach of trust, which carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years, a fine or both.
