PAB battery likely sparks fire in Marsiling flat, 3 taken to hospital for smoke inhalation
A fire broke out in a unit on the 13th floor of Block 4 Marsiling Road on July 30.
Stompers Yana and Doreen alerted Stomp to the incident.
Yana, a resident at the block, said the blaze had started at about 6pm: "The units below were all affected.
"Everyone had to evacuate because the power line was affected."
In a video she shared, a small explosion is heard, startling bystanders watching below.
In a series of clips recorded by Doreen from the opposite block, the fire can be seen intensifying. Flames engulf parts of a window, which eventually catch fire and fall to the ground below.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a Facebook post that it responded to the fire at about 5.50pm.
"Upon arrival, the living room and bedroom of a unit on the 13th floor were on fire," SCDF said.
"The fire was extinguished by firefighters with a water jet."
Three people were assessed for smoke inhalation and taken to Singapore General Hospital.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire likely originated from the battery pack of a power-assisted bicycle (PAB) in the living room.
SCDF reminded the public not to leave batteries or devices charging for prolonged periods or unattended overnight.
It also advised against purchasing or using non-original batteries.
