Welcome to Stomping Ground - a space where Stompers share reflections, personal essays and social commentaries that spark conversation and insight.

A woman's parked motorcycle was hit by a car in July and she has been seeking compensation since then without success.

Stomper Nikki said that lawyers have advised her to let it go.

She recounted: "On July 4, my stationary motorcycle was rammed at the Block 494F Tampines Street 43 multi-storey carpark when a lady lost control of her car.

"I discovered the damage only on July 16, the day I started my new job. Since July 17, my bike has been in the workshop and still isn't ready.

"I've had to pay out of pocket for daily transport while juggling my new job and home responsibilities. I have dependents to care for before and after work. I chose my new workplace for its proximity and better working hours, so that I could fulfil my duties.

"I believe I should not be forced to upheave my routine because of this accident when it was not even my fault. I believe that it is only right that the culprit compensate for my alternative transport."

The Stomper's motorcycle was not the only vehicle damaged in the accident.

"The owner of the other car that got hit received compensation for alternative transport, but I was informed by the motorbike workshop and the insurance company of the culprit that I will not be able to claim for alternative transport," said the Stomper.

"Multiple lawyers I consulted advised me to let it go, saying the law caps claims at a certain amount, making it a 'lost cause.'

"I dont understand. How is this fair? Why are motorcycle riders - often more vulnerable - left to bear all the inconvenience and cost, while car drivers get compensated?"

She said: "I hope sharing this can highlight the gap in the system and spark discussion about fair treatment for motorcyclists in Singapore."
