Off-duty cop helps to detain man using chairs to attack people in Tampines, 2 taken to hospital

A 52-year-old man was arrested after attacking four people with two chairs in Tampines, said police.

Two of the victims were conscious when taken to the hospital.

The police said they were alerted to multiple calls for assistance involving a man who was assaulting people in the vicinity of Block 825 Tampines Street 81 on Jan 16 at about 8.00pm.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man allegedly used two chairs to attack four persons. Several members of the public, including one off-duty police officer, assisted to detain him before the arrival of police.

The man was to be charged in court on Jan 18 with rash act causing hurt, which carries an imprisonment term that may extend to one year, a fine or both.
