Miss Emily Yap is a nurse at Alexandra Hospital who, despite her heavy workload, still volunteers on her days off.

Her mother, Stomper Audrey, shared that on Jan 29, the first day of Chinese New Year, Miss Yap delivered festive goodies such as pineapple tarts, love letters and almond cookies to the elderly residents of St Theresa's Home at Upper Thomson Road.

Miss Yap has been doing this every year since 2020.

Earlier in the month, she and other volunteers from the group she founded called Dunearn Youth also pooled their January 2025 CDC vouchers and personal savings to buy 100 care packs to deliver to the elderly, vulnerable families and migrant workers in the community.

"This Chinese New Year, our care pack delivery is more than just an act of giving. It's about celebrating shared stories and connections," said Miss Yap.

Recently, the 25-year-old was also among the neurodivergent "journalists" who interviewed President Tharman Shanmugaratnam in the Channel NewsAsia programme The Assembly.

Miss Yap, who is dyslexic, asked Mr Tharman: "What is one personal insecurity that you struggle with that might surprise Singaporeans?"

He replied that he had never been very good at being disciplined.

"It was a huge weakness when I was young. Huge weakness because I found it very hard to pay attention in class, in school. It was just part of my character. I couldn't pay attention. Even when I was in my 20s, I was like that," said the President.
