A Sengkang resident said LRT works in front of his condominium are causing his home to "tremble".

The construction at Layar LRT station next to H20 Residences at Fernvale Link has been going for "years and years", said Stomper Ong.

"The hacking, drilling and other noises set my apartment trembling even with all the windows closed."

Ong told Stomp on Feb 25: "We were not told of the long duration of the massive, intensive and noisy works. Otherwise, we would have moved."

He shared several videos of the construction site to show how loud the works can be. The noise can be heard in one video recorded inside his home with the windows closed.

Started in 2022, the works to expand the Sengkang-Punggol LRT depot from its current 3.5ha to 11.1ha are expected to be completed in 2027.

"Are we as residents to suffer like this for years for the sake of construction?" asked the Stomper.

"Now I'm trying to get temporary accommodation elsewhere, either locally or in JB."

In response to a Stomp query, a spokesperson for the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on March 3 it closely monitors the noise levels at all its construction sites.

"We understand that construction work activities can be disruptive, especially for residents living near the sites," added the spokesperson.

"We regret the inconveniences caused to residents."

To minimise the impact on the residents in the vicinity, LTA and the contractor have implemented various noise mitigation measures. A comprehensive noise impact assessment was conducted prior to commencement of work, and a noise management plan was put in place.

Where possible, 6m-tall noise barriers have been installed along the perimeter of the worksite with additional noise mitigation measures such as localised noise barriers, inflatable noise balloons have also been deployed around operating machines to further reduce noise at the source.

Construction activities generally stop by around 10pm.

The spokesperson said: "LTA and the contractor will continue to keep the residents and stakeholders informed on the construction activities through circulars, house visits and community engagement events.

"We thank residents and stakeholders for their patience and understanding."

Stomp has previously reported other residents complaining about the construction noise at Layar LRT station in June and August 2025.
