Due to a traction power fault, there was no train service between Boon Lay and Queenstown MRT stations on the morning of Sept 25.

SMRT first made the announcement on social media at 9.52am.

SMRT updated at 10.16am: "On Sept 25 at around 9.25am, a KHI (Kawasaki Heavy Industries) train on the East-West Line was returning to Ulu Pandan depot when it caused a power trip, resulting in a train near Clementi station stalling."

At 12.20pm, SMRT added: "About 850 commuters onboard the stalled KHI train near Clementi station were safely detrained onto the tracks, with our staff on-site to guide and assist them back to the Clementi station platform."

Stomper Daisy was one of many commuters affected by the service disruption on the East-West Line.

"I was on the train about halfway from Jurong East to Clementi, when the train stopped for about five minutes" said the Stomper, who was on her way to her workplace in Bedok.

"Then the announcement said there was a track fault at Queenstown. Then it announced the train was going towards Joo Koon and the train went backwards.

"Suddenly, we were back at Jurong East and everyone was told to get off."

Later, an east-bound train arrived and unloaded more commuters at the station. This was at around 9.30am.

"So everyone was stuck on the Jurong East platform. It was very crowded and they were not stopping people from coming up to the platform. It was a bit dangerous."

The Stomper left the platform and planned to take a bus to work, but the bus queue was so long that she changed her mind. She decided to take the train back to Choa Chu Kang and work from home.

The North-South Line was unaffected by the disruption.

The Stomper added: "I feel sorry for those rushing to work. I overheard this old uncle saying his boss won't allow this as an excuse and he can't afford Gojek."

Someone posted on X a video of train passengers alighting on the track near Clementi station.

A week earlier, the Circle Line had a service disruption on two consecutive days. On Sept 17, a power fault caused the disruption. The next day, a power system cubicle at Kim Chuan Depot caught fire.
