No rice or mashed potato at Fatty Bom Bom stall in Clementi due to water shortage after pipe burst

Water supply was fully restored at 5pm on Nov 25 after a water main burst in the middle of the night near Block 324 Clementi Avenue 5.

National water agency PUB said it was alerted to the incident at around 1.30am and dispatched service crew to isolate the leak and commence repair works.

"Nearly 70 households located in the lower floors of Blocks 324 and 325, as well as businesses on the ground floor, experienced disruption to their water supply. A water wagon was also deployed to provide temporary water supply to the affected residents and businesses," said PUB in a Facebook post.

Workers from the businesses, including two coffee shops, a hair salon and a clinic, carried pails and bottles to the water wagon to collect water, reported The Straits Times.

Mr Abdul Rahman, who works at Western food stall Fatty Bom Bom, said: "I can't cook certain things like rice and mashed potatoes because of the shortage of water."

But Fatty Bom Bom's business was not affected. The stall used takeaway cutlery and boxes to serve customers who were dining in, so that water could be saved by not needing to wash cutlery and plates.

Jurong GRC MP Tan Wu Meng shared a Facebook video showing the outdoor walkway of Block 325 flooded with brownish water.

PUB is investigating the cause of the leak.

This is the third such incident in three months.

On Oct 4, works at a construction site along Still Road South damaged a PUB underground water pipe, resulting in water gushing and flooding the nearby roads and surrounding HDB blocks.

On Sept 1, a pipe leak near 65 Tessensohn Road disrupted water supply to several HDB blocks in the vicinity and water wagons were deployed.
