Mum claims Yew Tee cai fan stall charged her 'shy' son $17 for fish tail, toufu and rice: 'He dared not ask why so much'
$17 for economic rice? That doesn't sound very economic.
A woman claimed that was how much a Yew Tee neighbourhood economic rice stall charged her son on June 2.
Facebook user Wendy Ng shared a photo of the food in a takeaway plastic container in the Friends of Yew Tee group.
She posted: "This cai fan stall next to the MRT station sold my son this afternoon a fish tail and some toufu and rice and charged him $17.
"My son is shy and didn't find out the price before paying and dared not ask why so much.
"This is too much. I hope all of you don't buy - ask before paying and reject if too expensive."

A netizen commented: "Red snapper tail ranges from $15 onwards depending on size. Haven't added cooking and gross profit margin. Could be cheaper at wholesale and whole fish. Better advise your kid not to think fish is cheap.
"Sometimes kids are used to home cooked food, and never realize it could be so expensive. Wait till kena cod fish, then can really cry."
He even shared a link to a page to show how much fish tails cost.
It seems the same Yew Tee economic rice stall was featured in Shin Min Daily News in March 2024 after someone complained about being charged $8.20 for two meat and one vegetable selections.
