M'sian lorry found with over 18,400 vapes at Tuas Checkpoint, man arrested
A Malaysian-registered lorry was found with over 18,400 e-vaporisers and 1,400 related components at Tuas Checkpoint on the morning of Sept 15.
This was the largest haul of smuggled vapes detected at a Singapore's land checkpoint since heavier penalties took effect from Sept 1, said the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) in a social media post.
The lorry was profiled by ICA's Integrated Targeting Centre through pre-arrival risk assessment and directed for enhanced checks.
During the inspection, officers uncovered the illegal items in the vehicle, which had been declared as carrying "components for motorised external roll-up blinds".
A Malaysian man was arrested in connection with the case.
The exhibits and the suspect were referred to the Health Sciences Authority for further investigation.
Despite being banned since 2018, $41 million worth of vapes were seized in Singapore from January 2024 to March 2025, reported The Straits Times.
