A customer was disgusted to see a cockroach crawling on a pair of serving tongs at the Mr Bean outlet in Lakeside MRT station on Nov 6 at about 9.29pm.

Stomper Anonymous, who was about to order a pancake, said the service staff noticed the insect and quickly used another pair of tongs instead.

In response to a Stomp query, a Mr Bean spokesperson said the brand takes food safety and hygiene "very seriously".

"We have investigated the incident and found that the cockroach likely entered the store from an external drain. We have since alerted the relevant party on this matter," the spokesperson said.

"All our outlets undergo daily cleaning and sanitisation, as well as regular preventive pest control and maintenance checks.

"Following this incident, we have stepped up these measures including additional inspections and cleaning sessions to ensure the store remains safe and comfortable for all customers.

"We apologise for this unpleasant experience and wish to assure our customers that we are taking every necessary step to prevent a recurrence."
