Stomper Reymund said: "The elderly man stood in front of the lady MP and offered his hands to her. She deliberately ignored him and shook hands with a well-dressed man."

Stomper Danny opined: "This is too much! The guy opened her car door and wanted to shake her hand but was ignored, not once but twice. The third time, he thrusted his hand into hers."

Stomper A added: "I feel hurt if I were that old man. The video clearly captured the 'malu' caused to the elderly man. He is a member of the lion dance troupe."

Stomper James asked simply: "Acceptable?"

Ms Gan, who is also Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Industry, told The Straits Times the incident happened on May 17 when she attended the Peck San Theng Cultural Festival at Peck San Theng in Bishan.

"When I got out of the car, I was trying to identify the host of Peck San Theng and shake hands with the host first," she said.

"I was also a little overwhelmed by the big group that received me when I got out of my car. I sincerely apologise to the man in the red shirt for the delay in shaking hands with him."

Ms Gan added she was thankful for the invite to the festival and the warm welcome, and that she has requested the organiser convey her apologies to the man in the red shirt as she is currently overseas.
