Motorist loads car parked illegally on double yellow lines, leaves trolley behind on roadside in Sengkang
A motorist was caught on camera parking illegally on double yellow lines, but that wasn't all he did.
It happened at Compassvale Bow outside Sengkang Grand Mall on Dec 7 at 3.30pm.
Stomper Kenneth shared dash cam video of the man casually pushing a supermarket trolley on the road towards the black Honda HR-V with its hazard lights blinking.
There is a FairPrice Finest supermarket in the mall.
After loading the contents of the trolley into his car, the motorist drove off, leaving the empty cart behind on the side of the road.
"Inconsiderate man," said the Stomper.
"The least he could do was push the trolley to the taxi stand, which would be fine. But he didn't."
Double yellow lines indicate where parking is prohibited at all times.
Parking means stopping a vehicle other than to immediately pick up and drop off passengers, goods or luggage. A waiting vehicle can be considered to be parking even if the driver is present, or if the engine is running.
"Don't turn on your hazard lights just because you feel it somehow mitigates the fact that you have parked illegally," advises the Automobile Association of Singapore on its website.
Ironically, the dash cam video that the Stomper shared appears to show that the cam car was parked illegally on the double yellow lines as well.
The fine is $70 for a first-time offender and $110 for a repeat offender.
As for the unreturned trolley, it is a perennial problem for supermarkets.
In 2022, a FairPrice spokesman told The Straits Times: "On average, the costs of repairing, replacing and retrieving unreturned trolleys is about $150,000 a year."
