Motorist indignant to be ticketed for parking near hydrant even though his car's not on yellow lines
A motorist was upset to be ticketed for parking within 3m of a fire hydrant even though his car was not parked on the double yellow lines.
Stomper Robin shared photos of the ticket and his car parked next to the hydrant and yellow lines at Jalan Benaan Kapal near the Sports Hub on Oct 22.
Double yellow lines on the road mean you are prohibited from parking there at all times.
"So now it turns out you can park your car on a clear piece of road away from any yellow lines and LTA (Land Transport Authority) still think it's fair to issue a ticket," said the Stomper.
He pointed out that the hydrant was recently moved 1.5m, but the yellow lines in front of the hydrant were not.

The Stomper said: "The first time I saw this, I literally laughed. It looked so sloppy to have moved a fire hydrant 1.5m to the right, but then repaint brand new yellow lines that mark where you're not to park in the exact same old place.
"Seriously, weren't they looking? TV blooper-level funny, I thought.
"But that laugh soon wore thin, when an LTA officer issued a ticket.
"For what I asked? For parking too near a hydrant. For real?!
"You do the best you can to avoid any part of your car being over the yellow lines they paint and now they expect you to look at what's on the sidewalk behind your car? And in the dark, as all this happened at around 7.30pm. Who does that?"
The Stomper asked if he is being unreasonable.
He told Stomp: "I hope you see my dilemma and why I'm feeling rather indignant. I'm sure I'm not the only one caught in this trap, so could do with your help to flag this overreach and warn others."
The law prohibits parking within 3m on either side of a fire hydrant at all times regardless of whether there are any yellow lines.
The penalty is a $70 composite fine.

"I had no idea," said the Stomper.
"Like so many, I believed by following the lines painted on the road, I was doing the right thing."
