A mother recently had a shock while changing her two-month-old baby's diaper.

Stomper Cloud shared with Stomp she was horrified to find 'tiny black dots' on her baby's Huggies diaper.

"Upon closer inspection, I realised they were small bugs crawling on the surface, with even more hidden under the elastic band," she said.

"It is extremely disturbing to imagine what could have happened if I had not noticed them, especially under dim lighting.

"The thought of these bugs crawling onto my baby's delicate skin is truly alarming."

Noting that there was no food or water source within the diapers for the insects, she suspected they hatched from inside, raising concerns over product hygiene and quality control.

She added that she still had nine diapers left in the same packet, and was afraid to think about the ones she had already used.

She immediately contacted Huggies' customer service on Feb 12 but told Stomp she was not satisfied with their response and said the agent 'pushed the blame' to the distributor, saying the issue is likely a warehouse storage problem.

"But how did the bugs get into a sealed package?" she asked, adding that she purchased the diapers through RedMart.

She shared that Huggies collected the affected items on Feb 14. They also informed her in an email that they would send over two new packs and keep her updated on the findings of their investigation.

Cloud said she wants to share the video she took of the bugs to ensure 'transparency and awareness'.

"Other parents deserve to be made aware of this alarming incident so they can be more cautious with their own babies," she said.

In response to a Stomp query, Huggies' Singapore team confirmed they are aware of the situation and have been in close communication with the consumer.

"This concern is something we take very seriously as we recognise the importance of ensuring the safety and quality of our products, especially for parents who rely on us for their babies' needs," a Huggies spokesperson said.

"Our investigations so far determined that this appears to be an isolated incident.

"Our diapers are manufactured in a controlled environment with rigorous quality standards, including regular scheduled pest control at our warehousing and storage facilities.

"Further, given the high temperature that diapers are produced in, it is almost, if not, impossible for any insects to survive the process and the moment the diapers leave the manufacturing line, they are sealed in packaging.

"While we cannot pinpoint the exact cause of this particular incident, it is possible that the issue may have occurred during storage, transportation, or at home."

Huggies added that to ensure product integrity, they have also conducted additional spot checks at their distribution sites and found no issues.

"We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality and will continue to monitor our processes to preserve consumers' trust in Huggies."
