Missing bag leads to arrest of Indian national accused of stealing from 14 Changi Airport shops
A 38-year-old Indian national will be charged on July 25 for multiple shop thefts in Changi Airport.
The police were alerted on May 29 at about 4.28pm after a bag was discovered missing from a shop in Jewel Changi Airport.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the shop supervisor had discovered the bag missing after a stock take. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, the Indian national was seen taking the item and leaving the shop without paying.
By the time his identity was established, he had already departed from Singapore.
But on June 1, the man returned to Changi Airport and was arrested while he was in transit.
Airport Police Division officers searched the man's belongings and discovered several unaccounted items in his possession.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of CCTV footage, officers established that the man had allegedly committed theft from 13 other shops in Jewel Changi Airport and the transit area of Changi Airport terminals, where he took various items including perfumes, cosmetics and bags without paying.
The stolen items worth $5,136 were recovered from the man.

He will be charged with 13 counts of theft in dwelling, which carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years, a fine or both.
The man will face another count of fraudulent possession of property, whic carries an imprisonment term of up to two years, a fine or both.
