‘Mind-boggling’: Shopper sees cockroaches in White Sands nursing room, mall steps up pest control
A shopper visited a nursing room at White Sands shopping mall, only to be greeted by unwelcome guests.
Stomper R said she went to the nursing room, located on basement one of the mall, at around 4pm on Aug 12 and spotted “a few” cockroaches.
She managed to capture a video of two cockroaches around the water dispenser and sink area.
R was concerned by what she saw and explained: “It’s worrying because it’s a place where parents would change their kids. Those who aren’t familiar would assume that it’s a clean place. But the fact is, it’s not.”
She was also confused by the presence of pests.
“It’s mind-boggling because the place is rather clean and has no unpleasant smell, but the roaches seem to be ‘living well’ there,” said R, hoping to create awareness about the incident.
According to R, it was not the first time she had seen cockroaches in the nursing room.
She added that she had reported the issue to the mall’s management a year ago, but it appears to persist.
“Perhaps they’re just facing some insect infestation or some other issues that are unknown to us, the public, or whatever,” said the Stomper.
When Stomp visited the nursing room on Aug 21 at around 7.20pm, no pests were seen.
White Sands apologises, conducts inspection
In response to a Stomp query, a spokesperson for White Sands said it is aware of the feedback and apologises for the Stomper’s experience.
“As part of our mall’s routine, we engage our pest control vendor regularly, on a weekly basis,” said the spokesperson on Aug 24.
“Upon receiving feedback on this issue, we immediately conducted an inspection of the affected areas and have stepped up pest control and cleaning measures as a precaution.”
White Sands will continue to monitor the situation closely and take any necessary follow-up actions to ensure a safe, clean and comfortable environment for shoppers, the spokesperson added.
“We welcome feedback from our shoppers and take such matters seriously.”
