Metal band and crew trapped in lift for 40 min in Gr-id mall after concert: Should SCDF be called?
The band is called Nerraka, which means "hell".
They were the opening act, along with another local band Nafrat, for the US death metal band Malevolent Creation's concert in Gr.id mall at Selegie Road on Nov 28 evening.
After the gig, the members of Nerraka and its crew were trapped in a lift for 40 minutes, which probably seemed like hell.
A video of their ordeal was posted on TikTok by the drummer, Taufiq.
After being stuck for 30 minutes, the eight lift passengers were informed by a voice over the intercom that the lift technician had not arrived yet.
Someone in the lift asked whether the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was called.
The intercom voice said: "Why don't you call SCDF?"
This upset the people in the lift. A woman said: "You should have informed us 30 minutes ago, not now."
The intercom voice replied: "You don't need to shout at me. Thank you."
A band member then used his phone to call SCDF.
The end of the video shows SCDF personnel in the basement lift lobby with the band and the crew, who were out of the lift.
The caption said they were safe.
The subtitles read: "They (security) asked us to call SCDF. What if there is a real emergency happened? Anything can happen and fatal for that 40 minutes."
The video has since garnered more than 200,000 views.
In response to a Stomp query, SCDF said it received a call for assistance at 1 Selegie Road at about 11:15pm.
Its assistance was not required, added SCDF.
Netizens debated whether SCDF should have been called in the situation.
One commented on the video: "Everyone in the lift seems to be fine so no reason to call SCDF. I don't see the problem for waiting when there's no emergency at all?"

A commenter asked: "So what was explained to you by the SCDF team?"
Taufiq replied: "The SCDF told us there was a miscommunication. However, none of the security representative come forward and explain to us how this can happen."
Others thought the voice on the intercom was rude: "People stuck in the lift and he still wants to say, 'You do not have to shout at me.' If anyone in the lift has phobia or sickness, they need to get help asap. Still want the people in the lift to call SCDF themselves."
Stomp has contacted Gr.id for more info.
