Massive fire breaks out at 2 shophouses in Geylang

A massive fire broke out in Geylang on Wednesday evening (June 20).

Several Stompers alerted Stomp to videos circulating online showing a huge blaze that could be seen from a distance.

One Stomper told Stomp the area surrounding the fire had been cordoned off by SCDF.

In a Facebook post, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to a fire that included the contents of two shophouses at 67 and 69 Lorong 14 Geylang at about 8.35pm.

"SCDF deployed 12 emergency vehicles and about 70 firefighters to the incident," it said in its statement.

"At the height of the operations, three handheld jets and an aerial monitor were utilised to mitigate the fire."

At 11.28pm, the SCDF said the fire had been extinguished after nearly three hours of firefighting operations.

No injuries were reported.
