Local actor-DJ Mark Lee's younger daughter Calynn may have to ring in the new year in hospital, but she does not want her mother Catherine Ng to miss out on the celebrations by accompanying her in the ward.

Ms Ng, who is in her early 50s, shared two photos of herself with Calynn in hospital on social media early on Dec 31. She assured fans that the 11-year-old was fine and had been admitted to hospital for a health screening.

Calynn was diagnosed in 2018 with glomerulonephritis, a rare condition affecting the kidneys, but her condition has improved in recent years.

Lee, 56, and his wife have two other children: Calista, 16, and Maksonn, 13.

"The main reason for this screening was to get a fuller picture of her health and to make sure everything is within the normal range," Ms Ng wrote in Chinese. "She was very calm in hospital and took the blood test and other tests in stride."

Calynn's nurse noted that the girl was very brave and did not cry when her blood sample was drawn. Ms Ng said Calynn is used to it, as her blood has to be drawn almost every month.

"As she may have to spend New Year's Eve in the hospital tomorrow, she said to me: 'Mum, you go and celebrate with your friends, I can stay in the hospital alone,'" Ms Ng wrote. "I was so touched and heartbroken when I heard her say that."

She added: "I hope you stay safe and healthy, Calynn. Let's jiayou together." Jiayou is an expression of encouragement in Mandarin.

Several of her celebrity pals, such as actresses Yvonne Lim, Huang Biren and Apple Hong, left words of encouragement in the comments, praising Calynn for being understanding and wishing her a speedy recovery.

Lee also shared his wife's post on Instagram Stories, wishing his daughter well.
