A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing a gold bracelet.

The police said they were informed of the alleged theft case at a jewellery shop along Serangoon Road on April 6 at about 3.35pm.

The man allegedly took a gold bracelet worth $12,000 and left without paying.

Investigations revealed that he had expressed his interest in buying a bracelet, but after trying it on, he walked out of the shop while the staff was serving another customer.

Officers identified the man and arrested him within 24 hours of the report.

More than $4,900 in cash, a smartphone, and a laptop were seized as case exhibits.

The man will be charged in court on April 9 with the offence of theft in dwelling which carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine.

The police advise retailers to be vigilant against similar tactics and to keep a close watch on items placed on their display counters, adding that they will not tolerate such "brazen acts of crime" and spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.
