It was his first time seeing a monitor lizard, let alone such a big one.

The encounter on April 14 left Stomper Richard feeling excited.

The Stomper, a Bukit Panjang resident, was visiting a friend when he spotted the creature at Block 345 Clementi Avenue 5, next to U Stars Supermarket.

Richard recounted: "The monitor lizard was searching for food and later moved into the drain quietly.

"I have not seen such a big monitor lizard in my whole life until now."

Monitor lizards are shy by nature and do not attack unless provoked or cornered. Members of the public who encounter them are advised to remain calm and maintain a safe distance. Do not touch, chase or corner them.
