A bookworm hoping for some quiet time at a cafe in Yishun had her peace rudely interrupted.

Stomper Reader said a man whom she did not know sat at her table without asking and fell into a noisy slumber.

The incident occurred at Jing Si Books & Cafe along Yishun Central 1 on June 2, at around 4.40pm.

Reader recounted: "I was chilling and reading at the cafe when this man suddenly came and plonked himself in the seat opposite mine without asking.

"I think it's basic courtesy to ask if the seat was taken or if he could share the table, but he was clearly lacking manners.

"I decided to just ignore him, but he started coughing into a book that he had taken from the cafe's shelves to browse. Imagine other unsuspecting guests picking up the same book later."

The Stomper was even more irked when the man rested his head on the table and fell asleep.

She added: "He was snoring very loudly, which you can hear in the videos I took.

"Not long after, an employee came over and passed the man a menu. That was when I realised that the man had not even bothered ordering anything and was being inconsiderate in every sense."

According to the cafe's rules, all visitors are required to order at least one beverage.

Reader told Stomp: "I complained about the man to the staff member, who very kindly and calmly asked if the man wanted to sit elsewhere. The cafe was quite full at that time but there were still other available seats.

"However, I said it was okay as I was leaving.

"Kudos to how the staff handled the incident and I hope guests can be more mindful and considerate. A cafe is not for sleeping."
