The Police are investigating a 37-year-old man who is believed to have lodged a false report on July 2 at 9.48am, alleging that he was robbed of cash S$799 by two unknown men.

In a news release, the Police said that officers from Tanglin Police Division conducted enquiries and detected many inconsistencies.

It was eventually established that the man had provided false information to the Police.

Investigations against the man are ongoing.

Anyone convicted for giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to $5,000, or with both.

The news release added: "The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information.

"Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law."
