Long-lost childhood friends reunite after 50 years thanks to Stomp: 'It's really unbelievable'

Original article:

Some childhood friendships leave an imprint so deep that even after decades, the memories remain.

Stomper Ling is appealing for public assistance on behalf of her uncle, Mr Tan Lian Huat, who hopes to reconnect with a long-lost childhood friend.

Mr Tan, who is 67 years old, has been trying to reach out to his old pal whom he knows as Soon Kia.

Ling told Stomp that the duo shared strong childhood memories back in the 1970s.

"Mr Tan named him Soon Kia, while Mr Tan was called Ah Huat," the Stomper said. "Due to ageing, Mr Tan can't recall many details."

Soon Kia's real name is believed to be Mr Leow Looi Xian, a Teochew who lived at 13 Hamid Lane. Stomp understands Hamid Lane no longer exists.

He reportedly had four sisters named Ah Lang, Ah Kio, Ah Choo and Ah Hong, and was a student at Whitley Secondary School in the 1970s.

"Hopefully, with the public's help, Mr Tan will be able to reunite with his friend again," Ling added.
