Debt collector hired by Stomper to recover $600k learns Stomper owes another client $130k

Original article:

A man hired a debt collector to recover $13,468 from a previous debt collector he had earlier hired to recover $600,000 owed to him by others.

Stomper NL contacted Stomp after reading Stomp's report about a debt collection agency called Ask Debt Recovery, also known as Ask Credit Collection.

His experience with Ask Credit Collection was not as positive as the client's in that Aug 11 Stomp report.

"I got to know them in January," said the Stomper.

"I am owed over $600,000 by two companies. So I tasked them to recover the money for me with a binding contract. They failed to do so and were even vulgar with me."

He claimed the agency "gaslighted" him and did not collect a single cent for him.

The Stomper said: "They terminated my contract even though they have no such right to do so."

The contract states that both parties must agree in writing to terminate. "I did not agree for them to terminate me," insisted the Stomper.

This resulted in him taking Ask Credit Collection to Small Claims Tribunal.

The Stomper shared a copy of a May 23 order from the tribunal, requiring Ask Credit Collection to pay him $13,468 by June 24.

On July 28, the Stomper messaged the agency: "Pay me back and I drop this. Else I pursue until the end. I'll give you a discount at 10k nett if you settle tomorrow."

When that didn't work, he tried something else.

"I have engaged another debt collection agency to give them a taste of their own medicine," said the Stomper.

But when the new debt collector visited Ask Credit Collection's listed address at Jalan Sultan Textile Centre, the unit was occupied by a car dealer.

The Stomper then found out the agency was based in Betime Building at Macpherson Road.

He said: "I have reached out to them on WhatsApp, but they remain uncontactable and do not want to resolve this or to communicate."

In response to a Stomp query, an Ask Credit Collection spokesperson explained that its office is under renovation.

"This so-called client has been posting fake allegations about us and we have proof," added the spokesperson, who did not elaborate on what the fake allegations and proof are.

"We currently have a court date set for his so-called claims."
