Tampines Mall stall asks Stomper who found cockroach in char siew bun to contact them directly

Original article:

A man was about to dig into his char siew pau but found more than just barbecued meat.

Stomper Anonymous bought nine char siew paus and a chicken pau from Tanjong Rhu Pau at Tampines Mall on April 13 at 3.28pm.

He said: "Note that these paus have not been steamed by the store as we requested it to be cold because we wanted to have it the next day.

"The next day on April 14, we peeled back the piece of paper below the pau and discovered a cockroach that was embedded in the pau.

"For context, after we reached home yesterday, we immediately put the paus into the fridge, so there is no way a cockroach would have found its way in between the piece of paper and pau.

"Hence, we were shocked and disgusted and we didn't even dare to eat the rest of the paus."

The Stomper subsequently reported the incident to the Singapore Food Agency (SFA).

In response to a Stomp query, SFA said they inspected the food establishment and did not detect any food safety lapses or pest infestation.

"Nonetheless, the food operator was reminded to ensure their premises are clean and well-maintained and their food handlers adhere to good food safety practices," the agency added.

"Food safety is a joint responsibility. While SFA puts in place and enforces the regulatory measures, food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices.

"Members of the public who have concerns about food safety practices by food operators should report to SFA via the online feedback form (www.sfa.gov.sg/feedback).

"SFA takes a serious view towards food safety and will investigate all feedback alleging poor food safety practices."

As part of the enquiry and gathering of evidence, SFA may engage the feedback provider for more details. The agency said it will not hesitate to take enforcement action if sufficient evidence has been obtained.

Anonymous told Stomp: "Hope I didn't ruin char siew pau for you."
