A middle-aged man and his family were eating at People's Park Food Centre in Chinatown at about 2pm on May 1 when a man sitting at a nearby table lit a cigarette.
"At the time, my wife, my son and I were sitting there. The baby was sleeping in a stroller," the man told Shin Min Daily News.
"The uncle started smoking at the table next to the stroller. He was also blasting his portable speaker.
"We felt uncomfortable, so I asked him not to smoke there."
The man, who was seated near the stall Ri Ri Hong Mala Xiang Guo, also pointed out to the smoker that there was a smoking corner nearby.
"I didn't expect him to get angry all of a sudden and start arguing with me, pointing at me and cursing," the man told the Chinese daily.
"He then leaned towards me with the lit cigarette in his hand. When I waved my hand, my finger accidentally brushed against the cigarette and was burnt.
"So I called the police."

The man added that he bandaged his finger and would monitor it.
The smoker admitted that he had an argument with the man but did not elaborate.
Smoking is prohibited in non-air-conditioned eateries such as coffee shops, cafés, canteens and hawker centres.
