Man accused of pressing himself against female commuters arrested for series of outrage of modesty cases on MRT
A 33-year-old man was arrested for a series of outrage of modesty cases onboard MRT trains.
The police said a member of the public lodged a report stating that she witnessed a man touching a female victim inappropriately inside an MRT train on May 15.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of CCTVs, officers from the Public Transport Security Command and Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on June 7.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to have been involved in other similar cases on the MRT.
The man will be charged in court on June 9 with outrage of modesty, which carries an imprisonment term, which may extend to three years, a fine, caning, or any combination of such punishments.
A woman raised the alarm on Xiaohongshu on May 13 about the man she claimed pressed himself against female passengers on crowded trains more than once.
She said she had just boarded the train at Jurong East when she felt someone squeeze in closely behind her.
"When I turned around, I realised it was the same man I saw on the train six months ago," she said. "Back then, he had also approached a girl inappropriately."
The woman said that after standing behind her briefly, the man moved further into the train and positioned himself behind another female passenger.
"He leaned forward and pressed his lower body against her buttocks," she alleged.
She described the man as about 30 years old, 1.7m tall, thin and dressed in a short-sleeved shirt and track pants.
