Man arrested for allegedly molesting woman at Nex shopping mall, linked to 5 other cases
A 49-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in a series of molestation cases, including one at Nex shopping mall in Serangoon.
The police said in a statement that on Aug 5 at about 11.31pm, they received a report that an unknown man had allegedly molested a woman at the mall.
The man was arrested within 15 hours after officers identified him through follow-up investigations and using images from closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in at least five other similar cases.
He will be charged in court on Aug 8 with outrage of modesty. If found guilty, he may face up to three years in jail, a fine, caning, or any combination of these penalties.
The police said they have zero tolerance for sexual offenders who threaten public safety and will deal with such cases sternly.
They added that officers continue to work closely with stakeholders such as public entertainment venues, transport operators and the community to prevent and deter molestation cases.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any incidents of molestation or suspicious behaviour.
