Man approached by police for checks at Bugis+ at 1.20am grabs cop's shirt and necklace, gets arrested
A 30-year-old man was charged in court on June 4 with using criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty.
Police said officers from Central Police Division were carrying out anti-crime rounds at Victoria Street on April 7 at about 1.20am when they spotted Tan Xin Fa at the HaveFun Live Show venue in Bugis+ shopping mall.
With the intent to conduct checks on Tan, one of the officers identified himself with a warrant card.
Tan then allegedly grabbed the plain-clothes officer's shirt and necklace abruptly, causing the officer to sustain some friction burns and red marks around his neck.
Tan was arrested on the spot.
He said in court that he intends to plead guilty but will be seeking legal advice, reported The Straits Times.
Tan was granted $5,000 bail and is scheduled to be back in court on June 24.
The offence of using criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty carries an imprisonment term of up to four years, a fine, or both.
