A man allegedly disappeared without paying his $234 bill at a pub after telling staff he was going to the toilet.
Stomper Guowei said it happened at his pub, Enjoy Bar, in The Commerze@Irving building in Tai Seng on Jan 3.
"The man, who claimed his name was Desmond, came in alone and joined a table with another customer – a total stranger – because we were full that day," recounted the Stomper.
Desmond ordered one bucket of beer, which was $46.
"Later in the night, because we had promo for two buckets at a cheaper price ($88), he proceeded to order another bucket," continued the bar owner.
"One of our servers was mingling with them and they were pretty happy playing card games and drinking games among themselves. As we had a ladies' drink for $100 as a tip for our servers, both Desmond and the stranger decided to order one each for our server.
"Thereafter, Desmond ordered another bucket and as we were closing, we were getting customers to pay their bills.
"He told us he urgently needed to visit the gents' and we gave him the benefit of doubt. After some time, we went to the gents' to check on him and he was totally gone."
The Stomper said the stranger offered to pay Desmond's bill but was rejected.
"We just want some justice and for other pub owners to be aware of this guy," explained the Stomper.
"We feel a bit disappointed that we chose to trust patrons but were unfairly treated.
"We didn't get customers to pay when they order because we have promos and don't want customers to feel obliged to order more for the promos. We keep our customers' interests at heart. We are a small newly opened pub trying to provide a friendly and safe environment for like-minded customers who love to sing."
But the Stomper remains positive.
He said: "At the same time, we believe that the world has more good than bad, so we are not gonna change our approach."
