Man allegedly assaults bar waiter at Downtown East over $2 dispute: 'Do you know who I am?'
A customer at a Downtown East bar allegedly assaulted a waiter, kicking and beating him before dragging him out of the bar — purportedly over a two-dollar dispute.
Stomper Anonymous, who was passing by, shared a video captured outside Jyu Yae Live Music Bar & Restaurant at E!Avenue, Downtown East on Dec 9 at around 10pm.
"Waiter mistakenly told the guy that water was 50 cents," he recounted, citing conversations among the customers that he overheard. "Ended up being 2.50 [sic] for mineral water and he beat him and kicked his face while on the ground."
A video shared by the Stomper shows a man lying motionless against a sliding door, while another man rains blows upon him.
The Stomper added that the man also tried to "jio (Hokkien for invite)" onlookers to fight the waiter, while claiming to be a gangster and yelling: "Do you know who I am?"
While noting that police turned up at the scene and questioned the man, Anonymous said that there were no arrests, although in his view, it should be "considered grievous hurt already".
He told Stomp that the waiter, who "had blood all over his face and looked quite serious", was sent to hospital.
In response to Stomp's queries, a police spokesperson said that authorities received a call for assistance at 1 Pasir Ris Close, on Dec 9 at 10.45pm.
A 23-year-old man sustained minor injuries and was conveyed conscious to hospital. A 37-year-old man is assisting with investigations.
Police investigations are ongoing.
In an Instagram post on Dec 10, Jyu Yae Bistro said that "an individual acted aggressively with no reason towards our staff while they were performing their duties".
Noting that this was "repeated behaviour" by the same individual, the bar said it has decided to "permanently deny this person entry to all our establishments".
