A 20-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment after graffiti was found outside a Bedok Reservoir Road flat.

The police said in a statement that they were alerted to the incident on Oct 5 at about 11pm.

Officers who attended the scene found graffiti on the wall beside the affected unit reading:

"O$P$, wait for me again, next time burn max."

Through ground enquiries and images from police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division identified the man and arrested him within 18 hours.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he may be involved in other loanshark harassment cases islandwide.

A mobile phone was seized as a case exhibit.

The man will be charged in court on Oct 8 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.

First-time offenders convicted of loanshark harassment face a fine of between $5,000 and $50,000, up to five years' jail, and up to six strokes of the cane.

The police said they have zero tolerance for such activities and will take firm action against those who vandalise property or cause public nuisance.
