Litter left behind after Deepavali festivities across S'pore: 'It happened during 7th Month and now again'
Deepavali celebrations brought light and joy to many parts of Singapore - but for some residents, the aftermath was far from festive.
Several Stompers shared photos of public spaces strewn with used sparklers, food packaging and other trash, expressing frustration over what they described as a recurring issue every year.
Stomper Shahida said she saw a family lighting sparklers and playing with them near a barbecue pit in Sembawang Park on Oct 20 at around 10pm.
"The celebration reportedly left litter and debris scattered around the park grounds," she said.

Over at Stirling Road, near Blocks 165 and 166, Stompers Aiwa and Jimmy both observed a large amount of rubbish left behind.
"Why do people need to mess up common spaces?" asked Aiwa. "It happened during the Seventh Month and now again during Deepavali."
She shared photos of cleaners clearing the area the next morning.
"Thanks to the cleaners, the place is clean again," she said, adding that such scenes happen "every year at most HDBs".

Jimmy, who visited the same area at about 8.30pm, echoed her sentiments.
"After the Deepavali event, the problems were not resolved. The cleanup's success is contingent upon who oversees it," he said, calling the situation "regrettable".

Stomper Yeo shared photos of a similar mess at Block 650A Jurong West Street 61 on the morning of Oct 21.

Meanwhile at East Coast Park, Stomper Deborah said she was disheartened to see rubbish scattered across the beach early that morning.
"It was like Little India here due to Diwali," she said.
"Plastic bags, bottles, beer cans, food packaging - the littering was astounding. By all means celebrate, but please be mindful of the environment."

While most agreed that festivals like Deepavali bring warmth and unity, many urged celebrants to show the same respect for public spaces as they do for the festival spirit - and to remember that keeping Singapore clean is everyone's responsibility.
