A bird was spotted on the counter at the Kebabs Faktory outlet in Sengkang Grand Mall on Sept 5.

Stomper Jin shared a brief video of the yellow-beaked black bird that appeared to be a mynah.

"This was recorded after seeing the bird eating cheese from the open container," said the Stomper.

"All these stores are in the open and most leave the food out uncovered."

Because of the open concept of the building, birds can easily fly in.

"Hence, there would be a high risk of birds coming to help themselves to the food if the food is left uncovered," said the Stomper.

After taking the video, he informed a Kebabs Faktory staff member about the bird.

"He looked like I was a nuisance, but he did move to take the cheese bucket out. I'm not sure what he did after that," said the Stomper.

"There were uncovered cherry tomatoes right next to it though, which I don't think he did anything with. I walked away after that."

In response to a Stomp query, a spokesperson for Kebabs Faktory said it has launched an immediate investigation into the incident.

"Our preliminary findings indicate that this was an isolated occurrence," said the spokesperson, adding that the following corrective actions were taken:

Immediate Disposal
All food items that may have been compromised were discarded immediately.

Deep Cleaning & Pest Control
The outlet is undergoing a full deep-clean and sanitation. An external pest control vendor has also been called in for inspection and treatment.

Enhanced Preventive Measures
Kebabs Faktory is also reaching out to mall management to identify and seal potential entry points for birds and will be installing additional preventive measures (for example, covered containers, replace the salad chiller with covers).

Staff Training Reinforcement
All staff have been retrained and reminded of strict protocols to keep all ingredients properly covered and safeguarded at all times.

The spokesperson said: "We sincerely apologise to our customers for this lapse.

"Kebabs Faktory is committed to upholding the highest standards of food safety and hygiene, and we are taking every necessary step to ensure such an incident does not happen again."
