Kampong Kayu resident upset after climbing 9 floors during power shutdown, town council says notices given
A resident at Block 1 Kampong Kayu was left frustrated after the electricity supply to her block was shut down on Aug 26.
Stomper Selena said the power went off at about 9am and was restored about two hours later.
"No lift was working as well," she said, claiming that residents were not informed before the power shutdown.
"I called SP Group and the town council at 9.10am but nobody was able to provide any info.
"Workers at the block said there were works done and electricity would only be restored by noon.
"Most of us at the block were not informed.
"I had to climb up the stairs to the ninth floor, and another auntie couldn't climb after her marketing.
"The electricity at home was also affected."
In response to a Stomp query, SP Group said: "We received a call from a member of public regarding an electricity supply disruption on Aug 26.
"As there was a scheduled electrical servicing by the town council for the affected block between 9am to 11am that day, we referred her to the town council for further assistance. Our network remains in order.
"We thank the customers and the public for their understanding and patience."
Marine Parade-Braddell Heights Town Council told Stomp that residents had, in fact, been notified in advance.
"Residents of Block 1 Kampung Kayu were informed in advance of the scheduled electrical works," a spokesperson said.
"Notices were distributed door-to-door on Aug 13, and additional notices were displayed on the same day at the ground floor lift lobby, noticeboard, and staircase.
"The works involved servicing the block's switch room, which required a temporary power shutdown affecting the entire block, including lifts and residential units.
"The works commenced at 9am on Aug 26 and were completed before noon on the same day.
"We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused to residents during this scheduled maintenance and appreciate their understanding as we work to improve our estate facility for all."
