ITE student hospitalised after getting attacked by schoolmates in stairwell, 3 teens face charges
Three teenagers have been charged after a video surfaced online showing a student being beaten in a stairwell at ITE College West.
Stomper Jane and another Stomper alerted Stomp to the 45-second video which has been circulating online.
The clip shows the victim crouching in a corner of a staircase while at least two other students repeatedly punch and kick him.
The first attacker, wearing a white shirt and black pants, started the assault before another youth in a dark blue shirt joined in.
The two took turns hitting the victim while at least three others stood nearby, with one filming the incident. Another youth was seen laughing and walking away after picking up an object from the steps.
The victim remained in a crouched position throughout the attack and did not retaliate.
In response to a Stomp query, Ms Alice Seow, principal of ITE College West said: "ITE is aware of a video regarding an assault at ITE College West.
"We take a serious view of the matter and are committed to the safety and well-being of our students.
"The injured student has been discharged from hospital, and we are providing support to him and his family.
"In line with our disciplinary procedures, three students have been placed on suspension while the court cases are ongoing."
According to court documents seen by Shin Min Daily News, three teenagers aged between 16 and 18 were charged in court on March 15.
One of them, a 16-year-old, was accused of being part of an illegal gathering at the third-floor staircase landing of ITE College West on March 12 at about 5pm.
The group had allegedly met with the intention of hurting the victim, also 16, with one or more of them using violence.
Those found guilty of rioting face up to seven years in prison and shall also be liable to caning.
Court records indicate that the case has been adjourned to April 11 while authorities await the victim's medical report.
The cases against three other individuals allegedly involved are still under investigation.
