A group of colleagues were out lunching at the IMM Building in Jurong East when they realised they had an additional uninvited guest - in their drink.

Stomper J said her colleague was drinking Coca-Cola when they found an insect in the plastic cup.

The incident occurred at Fu Lin Tofu Yuen on April 28, at around noon.

J recounted: "We told the staff, but they did nothing about it and just disposed of the cup. It was such a bad experience."

A report was lodged with the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) on April 29.

SFA told Stomp that it is looking into the matter.

In response to a Stomp query, a spokesperson for Fu Lin said: "We take such matters very seriously and appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

"We are deeply sorry to hear about the customer's experience and understand the distress caused by finding a foreign object in her drink.

"Our team is actively investigating the incident to understand how this occurred, including reviewing CCTV footage and conducting a thorough inspection of our premises and processes.

"We maintain strict hygiene standards and work with regular pest control measures, but we are taking immediate steps to ensure this was an isolated incident and to prevent any recurrence.

"Regarding the customer's claim that staff took no action beyond disposing of the cup, we are looking into the response provided by our team at the time."

The restaurant had offered a refund for the drink, but was turned down by the diner, said the spokesperson.

"Nevertheless, we will train the team to handle such situations with care and urgency, and to improve customer interactions," the spokesperson added.

"We will cooperate fully with SFA in their investigation and will comply with any recommendations they provide."

The spokesperson also said Fu Lin is committed to resolving the matter transparently and maintaining the trust of its customers.

SFA said food safety is a joint responsibility, adding: "While SFA puts in place and enforces the regulatory measures, food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices.

"Food operators should also ensure their premises are clean and well-maintained. Members of the public who have concerns about food safety practices by food operators should report to SFA via the online feedback form.

"SFA takes a serious view towards food safety and will investigate all feedback alleging poor food safety practices.

"As part of the enquiry and gathering of evidence, SFA may engage the feedback provider for more details and will not hesitate to take enforcement action if sufficient evidence has been obtained."
