Kim Huat couldn't believe it.

He was astounded by the results of the General Election on May 3, specifically in a particular area on Singapore's east side.

"In all my years of voting at a General Election, I have never seen a score as low as zero per cent," said Kim Huat aka Mr Brown aka Lee Kin Mun in a video posted online on May 5.

"I'm taking about the four-way mahjong game at the Tampines GRC."

Four parties had vied for votes in Tampines: the People's Action Party (PAP), Workers' Party (WP), People's Power Party (PPP) and National Solidarity Party (NSP).

The winning party was PAP with 52.02 per cent of the votes and second was WP with 47.37 per cent.

PPP and NSP got 0.43 per cent and 0.18 per cent respectively, but initially, both their vote shares were reported in the news as zero per cent.

"So low they cannot display anything more than zero," said Kim Huat. "They can't even round it up to 1 per cent.

"Later on, they 'paiseh' (embarrassed), they show two decimal point."

PPP had 593 votes while NSP had 249 votes.

"Add together, don't even have 1,000 votes in a place as big as Tampines," pointed out Kim Huat.

"Even if the rejected votes got together and form a party, they would beat NSP and PPP combined. The rejected votes for Tampines was 1,261.

"Can you imagine that? Rejected Votes party also can win the two of them. What's going on? Why are you even bothering then?"

The results meant that the NSP and PPP candidates would not be getting their $13,500 election deposits back as the money is forfeited if the candidates are not elected and do not secure more than 12.5 per cent of the votes polled.

To twist the knife even further, Kim Huat added: "Even Han Hui Hui from PAR (People's Alliance for Reform) got her deposit back."

Ms Han was part of the PAR team that lost to PAP in Tanjong Pagar GRC but got 18.97 per cent of the votes.

Referring to the NSP and PPP candidates, Kim Huat said: "I think they need to reflect upon themselves, look inside their heart and ask themselves, are there better ways to spend my $13,500 deposit money per person.

"Maybe I should use that money to buy a home stereo with a big-screen TV."
