Helpers spotted chatting and eating while elderly in wheelchairs left waiting in the heat at Marine Drive
What looked like a heartwarming scene took a sad turn.
Stomper A was initially touched when he saw a group of domestic helpers wheeling three elderly people to a gathering at Marine Drive on Aug 2.
"When I saw this scene I thought it was very heartwarming to see helpers bringing the three elderly people in wheelchairs together for a picnic," he said.
However, what unfolded left him saddened.
"Unfortunately, it turned out the gathering was for the helpers themselves to meet, chit-chat and makan (eat)," he said.
"There's nothing wrong with that, but it was such hot weather at 3pm and the poor elderly just sat there without having a share of food or drinks for more than 30 minutes."
The Stomper shared that the scene made him reflect on the role of families in ensuring proper care for their loved ones.
"It's very sad," he said. "Families who have helpers to care for their elderly should be made aware of what's going on."
